Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, has praised the ongoing modernization efforts at the Ministry of Information, (MOI), describing the institution’s transformation as a positive step toward strengthening government communication and public engagement.
The Speaker made the remarks on Friday during his first official visit to the ministry since assuming leadership of the House of Representatives. The visit provided an opportunity for him to assess recent improvements made at the institution, including renovations to office facilities, upgrades to media production units, and enhancements to public communication infrastructure.
Accompanied by Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah and members of the ministry’s leadership team, Speaker Koon toured several sections of the facility and expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved.
According to the Speaker, the changes go beyond physical renovations and reflect a broader effort to improve the ministry’s effectiveness in delivering information to the public.
He noted that a well-equipped information ministry plays a vital role in promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.
“The improvements we have witnessed today demonstrate a commitment to strengthening public communication and ensuring that government remains accessible to the people,” Speaker Koon said.
He emphasized that effective communication remains a critical pillar of democratic governance, particularly at a time when governments must compete with misinformation and public skepticism in the digital age.
The Speaker also lauded Minister Piah and his management team for their leadership in driving reforms aimed at modernizing the ministry and improving service delivery.
He said the initiative reflects the government’s determination to build stronger institutions capable of responding to the information needs of citizens across the country.
For his part, Minister Piah welcomed the Speaker’s visit and appreciation, describing it as an encouragement for staff and management who have worked to improve the ministry’s operations and work environment.
The Information Minister reiterated the ministry’s commitment to providing accurate, timely, and credible information to the public while maintaining high standards of professionalism and accountability.
He said ongoing investments in communication technology, media production, and workplace improvements are intended to enhance the ministry’s ability to effectively disseminate information on government programs and national development initiatives.
Minister Piah further explained that the modernization efforts align with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST Agenda, which places significant emphasis on institutional reforms, transparency, and improved public service delivery.
Observers say the Speaker’s endorsement highlights the importance of strengthening public institutions and improving communication between government and citizens.
As Liberia continues efforts to modernize its public sector, the transformation at the Ministry of Information is being viewed as part of a broader strategy to enhance governance, increase public trust, and ensure greater access to information nationwide.
