MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called on young Liberians to take advantage of the improving educational opportunities in the country, urging them to remain in Liberia to pursue their studies rather than seeking education abroad.
Speaking as Guest of Honor at the dedication ceremony of Covenant Academy School System , President Boakai said Liberians should become accustomed to positive developments taking place under his administration, stressing that government has a duty to deliver services and opportunities to its citizens.
“People should get used to good things happening for this country under my administration,” President Boakai told reporters following the ceremony.
The President noted that many of the initiatives currently being undertaken by his government should have been implemented decades ago, describing them not as extraordinary accomplishments but as the basic responsibilities of government.
“What we are doing should have been done 100 years ago. I do not see these developments as a big achievement; they are the responsibility of government,” he said.
President Boakai emphasized that his administration is working to improve the country’s education sector and encouraged young people to take advantage of the progress being made.
“People who want to go out to learn should stay here because we are making the educational sector better for our people,” the President stated.
He further noted that many Liberians living abroad are willing to contribute to the country’s development but require strong institutions, systems, and a committed government to effectively support national growth.
“Liberians outside want to contribute, but they need structure and systems in place and commitment from government. Let’s make Liberia better together,” he added.
The Liberian leader also thanked the founder of the Covenant Academy School System, Rev. Samuel Saah Mbayo for giving Liberians another opportunity to acquire good education.
Also speaking at the event, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah encouraged students to develop a culture of learning that extends beyond examinations.
She urged students to read for knowledge, personal growth, and future opportunities rather than focusing solely on passing tests.
“Read for the future and not only for exams,” Minister Jallah told the students.
The dedication of Covenant Academy International brought together government officials, educators, students, parents, and community members, highlighting the importance of education in Liberia’s national development agenda.
