Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Daniel O. Sando, has rejected calls by Unity Party National Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh for an immediate Cabinet reshuffle, insisting that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s Cabinet remains one of the most efficient administrations since the tenure of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Speaking on Prime Morning Drive on Monday, Minister Sando said the government has established a performance monitoring system that regularly evaluates the work of ministries, agencies, and commissions, making it unnecessary to judge officials based on public perception alone.
According to him, every government spending entity is required to develop a strategic plan with clearly defined performance targets and submit periodic reports outlining achievements and challenges.
He explained that ministries and agencies are monitored through a Performance Management and Compliance System (PMCS), under which institutions are required to report on quarterly milestones and provide explanations for any targets not achieved.
Sando noted that government institutions also hold regular management meetings to review their activities and ensure that decisions are implemented in line with national development priorities.
He said the Boakai administration has strengthened accountability by introducing systems that closely monitor the performance of public officials and government institutions.
The Deputy Information Minister further disclosed that President Boakai recently convened a special Cabinet meeting to address the country’s growing drug challenge, during which Cabinet members adopted a comprehensive framework to guide the government’s response to narcotics trafficking and substance abuse.
According to Sando, the framework has since become an operational tool for government institutions involved in combating the drug epidemic.
He maintained that the existence of structured monitoring and evaluation mechanisms demonstrates that public officials are being held accountable for their responsibilities and that the administration remains committed to improving governance and service delivery.
His comments come in response to recent remarks by Unity Party National Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh, who called for an immediate Cabinet reshuffle, arguing that several ministers and senior government officials have underperformed and should be replaced to improve government effectiveness.
The Presidency has not issued any official statement indicating whether a Cabinet reshuffle is under consideration.
