The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Education, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BRAC Liberia to implement the Accelerating Impact for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AIM) Program, an initiative funded by the Mastercard Foundation to improve access to education and skills development for adolescent girls.
The agreement, signed in Monrovia, marks a significant step toward expanding educational opportunities and equipping young women with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in school, employment, and entrepreneurship.
Under the initiative, adolescent girls will benefit from formal education support, alternative learning opportunities, entrepreneurship and employability training, life skills development, financial assistance, and enhanced teaching support aimed at improving learning outcomes.
The first phase of the program is expected to reach approximately 40,600 adolescent girls in 300 secondary schools across Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, Bong, Nimba, Lofa, and Margibi Counties by 2030.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah described the partnership as an important investment in Liberia’s future, stressing the need to ensure that girls remain in school, continue their education, and acquire practical skills that prepare them for employment and other opportunities.
Dr. Jallah said empowering adolescent girls through quality education and skills development is essential to promoting inclusive national development and creating greater opportunities for young women across the country.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, the Ministry of Education will provide policy leadership, coordination, and oversight throughout the implementation of the program, working closely with BRAC Liberia and participating schools to ensure its successful execution.
The AIM Program is expected to contribute to Liberia’s broader efforts to improve educational access, reduce barriers to learning for adolescent girls, and strengthen pathways to economic empowerment and long-term development.
