Monrovia-The Liberia National Police (LNP) says its Highway Patrol Team has arrested a 36-year-old taxi driver in connection with the alleged transportation of a substance suspected to be marijuana.
The suspect, identified as Shadrach Seaque, a resident of Gbarnga, was arrested along the Totota Highway during a routine inspection conducted by officers of the LNP Highway Patrol Team.
The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin P. Gray, according to the police.
During the inspection, officers reportedly discovered a substance suspected to be marijuana inside a blue taxi bearing license plate number TX10306.
Police said preliminary questioning of the suspect indicated that the substance was allegedly being transported to Monrovia on behalf of one of his passengers.
However, the LNP has not disclosed the identity of the passenger or provided further details about the quantity of the substance reportedly found in the vehicle.
Following the arrest, the suspect, the taxi and the suspected substance were taken to the LNP Central Police Headquarters in Monrovia, where they are expected to undergo further investigation.
The police said the investigation will help establish the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the suspected substance and determine whether additional individuals may be connected to the case.
The LNP reminded members of the public that the transportation, possession or facilitation of suspected illegal substances may constitute an offense under Liberian law.
The police also urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and report suspected illegal activities through the appropriate channels.
The suspect remains under police investigation, and any further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
