MONROVIA–The Office for the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L), in collaboration with the Legal Office of the President, has presented 120 copies of draft laws to the Legislature for the creation of the War and Economic Crimes Court and the Anti-Corruption Court.
This presentation follows the submission of the draft laws by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Speaking on behalf of OWECC-L and its partners, Tobias Wesseh of the President’s Legal Office underscored the importance of justice, transparency, and national healing as the surest path to nation-building.
He emphasized that the establishment of the two specialized courts would not only address past war-related atrocities but also confront growing concerns surrounding corruption and financial crimes in Liberia.
Receiving the documents on behalf of the House of Representatives, Chief Clerk Mildred Sayon assured the delegation that the draft bills would be forwarded to the Speaker and the leadership for legislative consideration.
“This is an important national matter,” she stated.
“The documents will be properly submitted to the leadership of the House for onward legislative action.”
The delegation also extended the presentation to the Liberian Senate, where copies of the draft bills were received by the Secretary of the Senate, Nanborlor Singbeh Sr.
The submission to both chambers of the Legislature demonstrates a united effort to ensure that the proposed courts receive national attention and support.
