The Ministry of Education has connected 156 public schools across Liberia to high-speed internet as part of efforts to expand digital learning and improve the quality of education nationwide.
The announcement was made by Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, where he highlighted progress under the Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE) Project.
According to Minister Piah, the initiative is being implemented with support from the World Bank and the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), and is aimed at increasing access to digital education resources in public schools.
He said each beneficiary school has been equipped with a digital laboratory and a learning management system containing approved senior secondary school textbooks and other digital learning materials. The connectivity will enable teachers and students to access educational resources online while enhancing classroom instruction.
Piah noted that the initiative will also strengthen real-time monitoring of school attendance, instructional delivery, and overall school performance, supporting the Ministry of Education’s broader efforts to improve learning outcomes across the country.
He added that the project forms part of the Government of Liberia’s vision to promote equitable access to technology and modernize teaching and learning in public schools.
The Information Minister further disclosed that internet connectivity efforts are continuing in additional schools across southeastern Liberia as the government works to expand digital education infrastructure nationwide.
The initiative is being implemented through the IRISE Project with support from the World Bank and in partnership with the Liberia Telecommunications Authority.
