MONROVIA -It appears the demolition of Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) famous Congo Town headquarters emboldened partisans than breaking them down. And with construction work on the new headquarters progressively advances nearly eight months after groundbreaking activities officially began in October 2025, the party seems to be much more spiritedly bullish.
The project, which party supporters describe as a major symbol of the CDC’s rebuilding and reorganization efforts ahead of the 2029 elections, has seen significant construction activities in recent months as workers continue development on the site.
Meanwhile, political discussions surrounding the CDC intensified following comments made by Byron Byron, a former supporter of the ruling Unity Party during the 2023 elections and an aspirant for Representative of District #8 in Montserrado County.
In a public statement, Byron expressed regret over his previous political stance and declared renewed support for former Liberian President George Weah and the CDC ahead of the 2029 presidential elections.
“2029, we will correct those lies and bring George Weah right back to power,” Byron stated, while also acknowledging what he described as mistakes made during his time supporting the opposition movement.
The District #8 representative hopeful further claimed that many opposition supporters were “radicalized” during the political campaign period by individuals he described as “sophisticated rogues,” while publicly asking God for forgiveness over his past political decisions.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some supporters praising his decision to return to the CDC camp while others criticized his remarks.
The CDC remains one of Liberia’s major opposition political parties following the 2023 general elections, with party loyalists continuing efforts to reorganize and strengthen support ahead of future political contests.
