The Ministry of Labour has dismissed allegations made by EFFL leader and Unity Party-Alliance official Emmanuel Gonqueh that Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr. is “marginalizing” EFFL members employed at the Ministry.
In a press release issued over the weekend, the Ministry described Gonqueh’s claims, made during a recent press conference, as “false and misleading.”
In the release under the signature of Frederick Baye, Labor Ministry Deputy Director of Communication, the ministry said “all EFFL members were processed.”
Baye, who also heads the Patriotic Consciousness Association of Liberia [PACA], said more than 10 EFFL members seconded to the Ministry were hired and deployed in line with the Civil Service Standing Orders and the Decent Work Act.
He said the appointments reflect Minister Kruah’s commitment to uphold the UP-Alliance agreement by creating jobs for Liberians, especially young partisans — something he accused Gonqueh of refusing to acknowledge.
Baye listed some of the EFFL personnel currently serving with full benefits as John Sheriff, Labour Commissioner, Isaac Kamara, Regional Coordinator, Jimmy George, Director – Theodore Hodge, Inspector and Ms. Olhoula Kim Ekuode, Research Officer
According to Baye, Gonqueh’s comments are “baseless” and aimed at sowing division within the Unity Party-Alliance. “These comments are not only false and misleading, but inimical to creating divide within the Unity Party-Alliance, with the deliberate objective of dangerously creating a split within the Alliance,” he stated.
He added that such actions undermine the “national transformation” agenda of President Boakai and the Rescue Mission government, of which Minister Kruah is a part.
Meanwhile, Minister Kruah has launched the “Minimum Wage Salary Verification Task Force” to ensure Liberian-owned companies comply with wage laws nationwide.
Headed by Assistant Minimum Wage Director Madam Blessing Suah, the team has completed its first round of inspections in Bong County and is scheduled to move to Grand Bassa County next.
