Gompa City Mayor Samuel S. Hardt has expressed sympathy to the family of a 52-year-old woman who reportedly died after being electrocuted by a high-tension power line owned by Jungle Energy Power (JEP) in the Dorr Cooper Avenue community.
Speaking during a press conference on Saturday, Mayor Hardt described the incident as a tragic loss and assured the bereaved family of the city government’s support toward providing the deceased with a dignified funeral and burial.
According to reports, the victim, identified as Nonh Dolo, was electrocuted in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 9, while on her way to the market to sell cassava leaves and potato greens to support her family’s livelihood. She reportedly came into contact with the high-tension power line, resulting in her death.
Mayor Hardt said the tragedy underscores the need for increased public education on electrical safety and announced plans to engage Jungle Energy Power on measures to improve community awareness about the dangers posed by high-voltage electrical infrastructure.
He urged residents to exercise caution around power lines and other electrical installations, while calling on members of the media to support efforts aimed at educating the public on electrical safety.
Meanwhile, Jungle Energy Power has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, two days after the fatal electrocution.
Authorities are expected to continue gathering information into the circumstances surrounding the incident as residents await further clarification from the power provider.
