Another suspect in the Roberts International Airport (RIA) $19 million cocaine bust has been formally charged as the Joint National Security Investigation Team, operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice, continues to expand its investigative duties to identify all of those connected to what is now referred to as drugs syndicate.
The investigation team in a last Friday statement announced that Philip Yeoh Jr. has been charged following an ongoing investigation into six boxes that were presented for shipment from Liberia to the United Kingdom as general cargo.
According to investigators, security officers discovered a white powdery substance suspected to be illicit drugs during routine screening and a subsequent physical inspection of the consignment.
Authorities alleged that Yeoh, an employee of Global Logistics Services/Menzies, was questioned in the presence of his legal counsel after being informed of his constitutional rights. Investigators claim that after learning of the discovery, he communicated with a co-defendant and participated in efforts to negotiate the release of the shipment.
Based on the evidence gathered, prosecutors have charged Yeoh with Criminal Facilitation, Criminal Solicitation, Criminal Conspiracy, and Concealing Property Derived from a Drug Offense under relevant provisions of the Revised Penal Law of Liberia and the Amended Controlled Drug and Substance Act of 2023. He has since been forwarded to a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
Meanwhile, investigators disclosed that George Wha Harris has been identified as a person of interest in the case. Authorities said Harris was questioned by the Joint National Security Investigation Team and was later arrested for alleged unruly conduct during the investigation.
The statement noted that Harris has since been released into the custody of his legal representative while investigators continue their work.
The investigation team emphasized that the charges against Yeoh and any allegations involving other individuals remain subject to judicial review and ongoing investigations. It stressed that all accused persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
Officials further indicated that the investigation remains active and that additional individuals may be questioned or charged if evidence establishes a legal basis for further action.
The Joint National Security Investigation Team also urged the public to refrain from speculation and the circulation of unverified information, encouraging citizens to rely on official updates as the investigation progresses.
