The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NAFAA) has launched a media engagement initiative aimed at strengthening public awareness of Liberia’s fisheries sector while promoting the country’s growing blue economy as a catalyst for economic development.
The initiative was unveiled during NAFAA’s Open House and Media Engagement held Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the Authority’s headquarters in Monrovia.
Delivering the keynote address, NAFAA Deputy Director General for Administration, Madia H. Peters Magbollah, said the Authority is pursuing an ambitious vision to transform Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture sector into a major contributor to economic growth, food security and sustainable national development.
She said NAFAA is working to position Liberia as a competitive destination for blue economy investment by strengthening fisheries governance, encouraging value addition, attracting both domestic and foreign investment, and promoting greater transparency through improved collaboration with the media and the public.
According to Magbollah, Liberia’s vast marine resources provide significant opportunities to create jobs, expand fish exports and improve the livelihoods of communities that depend on the fisheries sector.
She emphasized that the Authority remains committed to implementing key reforms, strengthening public-private partnerships and ensuring the sustainable management of the country’s fisheries resources.
Magbollah noted that these initiatives are intended to unlock the full economic potential of Liberia’s blue economy while safeguarding marine ecosystems for future generations. She added that effective media engagement will play a critical role in informing the public about NAFAA’s programs and fostering greater accountability in the management of the country’s fisheries resources.
The Open House and Media Engagement brought together journalists and NAFAA officials to discuss the Authority’s priorities, achievements and ongoing efforts to promote transparency and sustainable growth within Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture sector.
