Liberia’s opposition political landscape is witnessing a rare moment of coordination and engagement as leading political figures and parties confirm participation in the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC)’s 22nd Anniversary and Militant Month Celebration scheduled for Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
The All Liberian Party (ALP), led by Political Leader Benoni Urey, has officially confirmed its participation in the event following an invitation extended by CDC National Chairman, Attorney Janga Augustus Kowo.
In a formal communication, the ALP congratulated the CDC on its 22 years of political existence and described the milestone as a reflection of the party’s continued contribution to Liberia’s democratic development.
The ALP noted that political anniversaries of this nature highlight the shared responsibility of political actors to strengthen democratic governance, promote peace, and support national unity.
The party further confirmed that it will be officially represented at the celebration, with its political leader expected to travel alongside senior party officials.
The Alternative National Congress (ANC) also joined in congratulating the CDC, describing its anniversary as a significant milestone in Liberia’s democratic journey over the past two decades.
The ANC said the event underscores the importance of political participation, democratic continuity, and national engagement.
The party further confirmed that its Political Leader and Standard Bearer, Alexander B. Cummings, has accepted an invitation from the CDC to serve as keynote speaker at the celebration.
The invitation, signed by CDC National Chairman Atty. Janga Augustus Kowo, is said to emphasize dialogue on governance, accountability, economic opportunity, and the future of Liberia’s democracy.
According to the ANC, Cummings will travel to Zwedru with senior party officials and members, noting that the engagement demonstrates growing political goodwill and the importance of constructive dialogue among democratic actors.
The party further stressed that cooperation, mutual respect, and political tolerance remain essential pillars for strengthening national unity and advancing Liberia’s democratic progress.
Meanwhile, the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) Political Leader and Nimba County District #7 Representative, Hon. Musa Hassan Bility, has also confirmed his attendance at the CDC anniversary celebration.
Bility described his decision as an expression of political maturity and respect among opposition parties, stressing that dialogue and engagement are necessary for addressing Liberia’s national challenges.
He noted that when political institutions extend invitations to one another for national events, participation becomes an opportunity to strengthen democratic relationships, build trust, and promote constructive political interaction.
Bility also expressed appreciation to the CDC for the invitation and said he looks forward to joining fellow political leaders, party supporters, stakeholders, and citizens in Zwedru for the celebration.
The CDC’s 22nd Anniversary and Militant Month Celebration is expected to bring together senior party officials, opposition leaders, and supporters from across Liberia’s political spectrum.
The event is anticipated to serve not only as a celebration of the party’s history but also as a platform for broader political engagement and reflection on Liberia’s democratic journey.
