Monrovia-Inspector General of Police Gregory Coleman has warned applicants participating in the ongoing Liberia National Police recruitment exercise against submitting fraudulent academic documents.
Coleman said the LNP will verify the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) information submitted by applicants and vowed that anyone found using fake credentials will be arrested and prosecuted.
Speaking during the recruitment process, the Police Inspector General said the verification exercise will involve uploading applicants’ WAEC numbers to the examination body’s portal to authenticate their credentials.
“I am not threatening anybody, but I am just sending a fair warning,” Coleman said. “Today, we will be uploading all of your WAEC numbers into WAEC’s portal. When we find you put fake document on it, we will arrest every last one of you and first send you to court.”
He urged applicants who may have already submitted fraudulent documents to withdraw them before the verification process begins.
Coleman said the police would not tolerate attempts to manipulate the recruitment process, stressing that applicants seeking to become law enforcement officers should not begin their careers by cheating.
“If you are even thinking about faking documents to come to this application process, let me warn you. We are law enforcement. We will make sure we arrest and forward you for prosecution,” he said.
According to Coleman, individuals who submit fraudulent credentials will face prosecution and could be used as examples to deter others from engaging in similar conduct.
“The thing you are coming to join, you can’t come join it by cheating,” Coleman said. “When we catch you, we will ‘wind’ you and send you to court to serve as an example.”
The warning comes as the Liberia National Police continues its recruitment process for new applicants seeking to join the force.
