MONROVIA – Montserrado County Senators Abraham Darius Dillon and Saah H. Joseph have called for the temporary suspension of the GLS Menzies cargo-handling concession at Roberts International Airport (RIA) pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into the seizure of approximately 237.6 kilograms of cocaine.
In a joint communication addressed to Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and members of the Liberian Senate, the two lawmakers urged the Senate to recommend that the Executive Branch suspend the concessionaire’s operations while authorities complete their investigation into one of the country’s largest recent drug seizures.
The recommendation follows the June 8, 2026 interception of cocaine valued at an estimated US$19.2 million at the GLS Menzies warehouse located within Roberts International Airport.
According to the senators, the Joint National Security Investigative Task Force has identified Paul J. King, General Manager of GLS Menzies, and Philip Yeoh, the company’s Security Manager, as persons of interest in the ongoing probe.
Dillon and Joseph argued that the reported involvement of senior officials of a company entrusted with managing Liberia’s cargo-handling operations raises serious concerns that warrant a temporary suspension of the concession until the investigation is concluded.
The lawmakers maintained that such a move would help safeguard the integrity of the investigation, preserve critical evidence, and protect Liberia’s reputation as a reliable aviation and trade partner.
They also emphasized that suspending the concession would demonstrate the government’s commitment to accountability and reassure the public that no institution, company, or individual is beyond scrutiny.
“The recommendation is purely precautionary and should not be interpreted as a presumption of guilt,” the senators stated in their communication, noting that GLS Menzies’ operations could be reinstated if the company and its officials are cleared by investigators.
The senators further urged Senate Plenary to treat the matter with urgency as national security authorities continue their investigation into the multimillion-dollar drug seizure.
The case has attracted significant public attention and remains the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Joint National Security Investigative Task Force, which has pledged to pursue all leads and hold accountable anyone found to be connected to the trafficking operation.
Should the Senate endorse the recommendation, the matter would be forwarded to the Executive Branch for consideration and possible action while the investigation continues.
