The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) has taken series of administrative measures against several employees as investigations continue into the reported US$19 million drug trafficking case currently being examined by the Liberia Joint Security Task Force and other state security agencies.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Authority confirmed that a number of its employees have been invited by security agencies to assist with the ongoing investigation. As a result, the LAA said it has taken precautionary administrative actions aimed at safeguarding the integrity of airport operations while ensuring full cooperation with investigators.
According to the statement, seven employees have been placed on immediate administrative leave pending the outcome of both internal reviews and external investigations. Those affected are Nathan E. Watson, Henry Y. King, Geraldine C. Zeon, Ruth G. Gbapawea, Benjamin Rivercess, Mohammed Gbowrah, and Roland G. Taylor.
The Authority also disclosed that Oscar J. Brown has been placed on indefinite suspension pending the conclusion of all relevant proceedings.
LAA management emphasized that the measures are strictly administrative and precautionary and should not be interpreted as disciplinary actions or evidence of wrongdoing by any of the affected employees.
“The Authority expressly affirms that all affected individuals are entitled to the full protection of due process under Liberian law,” the statement noted, highlighting the presumption of innocence, the right to legal representation, and the opportunity to appeal any administrative decisions.
The Airport Authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and integrity within Liberia’s aviation sector while ensuring fairness and adherence to lawful procedures throughout the investigation.
The LAA further pledged its full cooperation with national security institutions and all authorized investigative bodies. It also reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, accountability, and compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks governing public institutions.
As investigations continue, the Authority has reminded all employees of their responsibility to uphold professional standards and institutional integrity. Management said additional information will be provided when appropriate and in accordance with applicable laws and the needs of the ongoing investigation.
The reported US$19 million drug trafficking case has attracted significant public attention, with authorities continuing efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the matter and identify those responsible.
