Relief and joy filled the FDA Community in Paynesville after a two-week-old baby previously reported missing was safely recovered and reunited with its mother.
The baby, who reportedly disappeared last week under suspicious circumstances, was brought to ELBC early Wednesday morning by the child’s mother, 16-year-old Memeh Otis, and her mother following the successful recovery of the infant.
According to earlier reports, Memeh Otis alleged that her newborn went missing after she encountered an unidentified woman at the Omega Community Clinic in Paynesville.
Speaking in an interview with LNTV Reporter Damawa Fofana, Memeh explained that the baby was later discovered by a tricycle rider, commonly known as a “Kehkeh” rider, after the suspected perpetrator allegedly abandoned the child on the back seat of the vehicle beside another passenger.
The rider reportedly became suspicious after noticing the baby had been left behind and subsequently took the infant to a nearby police station in Paynesville.
Memeh and her mother further disclosed that prior to the recovery, they had met with the father of the alleged suspect, identified as Henry Goffa, in Caldwell on Sunday.
According to them, they later received a call from the police requesting that they come to the station to identify a baby that had been brought in.
The family confirmed that the recovered child was indeed the missing infant.
Authorities say the matter remains under active police investigation as efforts continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and abandonment of the baby.
Meanwhile, Memeh Otis and her mother have expressed gratitude to members of the public for the support, encouragement, and concern shown during the period the child was missing.
The incident attracted widespread public attention and concern across Paynesville and surrounding communities, with many residents joining calls for the safe return of the baby.
