Defense Minister, (Rtd) Brigadier General Geraldine Janet George, has begun a nationwide assessment tour of military barracks across Liberia, with the first visit taking place at the Edward Binyah Kesselly Barracks in Schiefflin, Margibi County.
The assessment follows the recent recruitment drive launched by the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) and is intended to evaluate the welfare, living conditions, and operational readiness of military personnel stationed throughout the country.
During the visit on Wednesday, June 10, Minister George met with military leadership, officers, non-commissioned officers, and enlisted personnel to gain firsthand insight into the challenges facing servicemen and women.
The tour focuses on several key areas, including housing conditions, healthcare services, sanitation, access to safe drinking water and electricity, educational opportunities for military families, infrastructure development, logistics, troop welfare, and overall military preparedness.
Speaking during the assessment, Minister George reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of AFL personnel.
She emphasized that members of the Armed Forces deserve dignified living conditions, adequate support systems, and opportunities for professional development as they continue to protect Liberia’s peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, findings from the nationwide assessment will be compiled into a comprehensive report that will help guide future government interventions aimed at strengthening military infrastructure, improving troop welfare, and enhancing operational effectiveness across the AFL.
The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to build a modern, professional, disciplined, and combat-ready Armed Forces capable of effectively responding to national security needs.
The Ministry of National Defense says it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the continuous improvement of conditions affecting military personnel and their families nationwide.
