MONROVIA – The Ministry of Health (MOH), together with the Civil Service Agency (CSA), the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), county authorities, development partners, and other health sector stakeholders, has validated a new National Human Resources for Health (HRH) Policy for 2026–2036 aimed at transforming Liberia’s healthcare workforce over the next decade.
The validation exercise, held in Ganta, Nimba County, brought together government officials, County Health Officers, superintendents, civil society organizations, and development partners to review and endorse the policy framework that will guide workforce planning, recruitment, training, deployment, and retention across the country’s health sector.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Deputy Minister for Administration, Martha C. Morris described the policy as a critical step toward building a stronger and more resilient healthcare system capable of delivering quality and equitable services to all Liberians.
She noted that a well-trained, adequately staffed, and motivated health workforce remains essential to addressing healthcare challenges and improving access to medical services throughout the country.
The new policy seeks to tackle key issues affecting the health sector, including workforce shortages, uneven distribution of healthcare professionals, limited training opportunities, and retention challenges. It also aims to strengthen accountability and ensure that health institutions are equipped with the human resources needed to meet the growing healthcare demands of the population.
Participants at the validation meeting reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the implementation of the policy and working collaboratively to strengthen Liberia’s health system.
The Human Resources for Health Policy (2026–2036) is expected to serve as a strategic roadmap for developing a skilled, competent, and sustainable healthcare workforce, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes and universal access to quality healthcare services across Liberia.
The validation marks another significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to reform the health sector and build a healthcare system that is responsive to the needs of all citizens.
