Monrovia-President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is expected to return to Liberia on Tuesday, October 6, following an official visit to the United States, where he participated in several high-level engagements.
Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs Danlie Sando made the disclosure Thursday, and highlighted the President’s engagements while in the US, which included participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, meetings with U.S. congressional leaders, engagements with investors, and participation in the Liberia Annual Diaspora Conference and other activities.
Deputy Minister Sando said President Boakai also held discussions with U.S. lawmakers on issues including democracy, peace and security, economic transformation, energy, infrastructure and investment.
He said the President met with Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, as part of efforts to strengthen Liberia-U.S. relations and promote trade and investment.
According to Sando, the President’s engagements also included discussions on international peace and security, as well as Liberia’s position on the peaceful use of nuclear technology and multilateral cooperation.
Deputy Minister Sando said the government considers the visit significant because of the range of engagements undertaken by the President during his stay in the United States.
He said the President’s return will be covered by the media, with relevant government offices expected to coordinate arrangements for journalists at the airport.
Sando said the government views the visit as an opportunity to strengthen Liberia’s international relationships and promote the country’s interests.
Upon his return, President Boakai is expected to be received by officials and supporters before proceeding to a Thanksgiving and intercessory prayer service.
The President is then expected to retire home following the activities.
