MONROVIA–The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with support from the Liberia National Police (LNP), has arrested more than 15 Chinese nationals for allegedly causing massive environmental damage and operating without environmental permits.
According to preliminary information, the arrests were carried out during a joint enforcement operation targeting illegal activities believed to be in violation of Liberia’s environmental laws and regulations.
Authorities disclosed that the suspects were allegedly engaged in operations that caused significant environmental degradation while operating without the required environmental permits issued by the EPA.
The development forms part of ongoing efforts by the EPA and the Liberia National Police to strengthen environmental protection measures and ensure full compliance with national environmental laws.
Investigators are currently assessing the extent of the environmental damage allegedly caused by the operations, while authorities continue preliminary investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile, the EPA has reiterated its warning to companies and individuals operating in Liberia to fully comply with environmental regulations, including securing the necessary permits before carrying out activities that could negatively impact the environment.
