MONROVIA–Liberia is taking significant steps toward strengthening its agricultural sector as Agriculture Minister, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, embarks on a six-day strategic working visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation, food security, and agricultural innovation.
The visit, which runs from May 19 to 24, 2026, is being undertaken at the invitation of Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, H.E. Dith Tina. Activities have already commenced with tours of Cambodian rice fields and direct engagements with local farmers.
According to Liberia’s Ministry of Agriculture, the visit is intended to provide Liberia with practical lessons from Cambodia’s successful transformation from a post-conflict nation into a competitive rice-exporting country.
Cambodia’s achievements in rice production, irrigation systems, farm mechanization, agro-processing, and agricultural value-chain development are expected to serve as key learning areas for Liberia as the country intensifies efforts to reduce rice importation, increase local food production, and modernize farming practices.
During the visit, Minister Nuetah is expected to hold discussions with Cambodian agricultural authorities and stakeholders, while also touring mechanization centers, irrigation projects, and agro-processing facilities. The engagements will further explore opportunities for investment, technical cooperation, and knowledge exchange aimed at transforming Liberia’s agricultural sector.
The Ministry noted that Cambodia’s agricultural progress demonstrates the impact of innovation, strategic investment, and sustained commitment to national agricultural growth.
Liberia continues to prioritize the development of a resilient, productive, and inclusive agricultural sector through international partnerships, technology transfer, and South-South cooperation initiatives.
The visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic and agricultural ties between Liberia and Cambodia while opening new avenues for collaboration in agricultural development and food security.
