The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) has received the prestigious 2025 Performance Excellence Award in recognition of its strong commitment to meeting targets under the government’s Performance Management and Compliance System (PMCS).
The award was presented by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, highlighting the city corporation’s progress in improving public service delivery, transparency, and accountability.Introduced in 2024, the Performance Management and Compliance System aims to strengthen governance across ministries, agencies, and commissions by ensuring that public officials remain accountable and that national resources are effectively utilized.
Since taking office, Monrovia’s Mayor, John-Charuk Siafa, along with members of the city council and MCC staff, has spearheaded a series of institutional reforms that have contributed to the corporation’s improved performance.
According to city authorities, the recognition reflects the collective efforts of employees and the continued collaboration with residents and development partners. Officials say it also signals that the corporation is making steady progress toward building a more responsive and efficient local government.
Mayor Siafa praised President Boakai for the confidence placed in his leadership and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining high performance standards and strengthening local governance.
Over the past two years, the MCC has focused on addressing key urban challenges, particularly in waste management and sanitation, while also advancing administrative and legal reforms.
Efforts have included the renovation and modernization of transfer stations, procurement of waste collection equipment, and capacity-building initiatives targeting both staff and residents.
Additional interventions have involved the establishment of a one-stop service center, internal restructuring at City Hall to improve efficiency, and the implementation of community-based projects in several underserved areas.
The corporation’s long-term vision is outlined in its strategic plan, “The Monrovia We Want,” which sets ambitious development goals for the city. As part of this vision, the MCC is seeking increased investment in the waste management sector to boost job creation and transform service delivery.
Mayor Siafa also expressed appreciation to MCC employees, local and international partners, and residents for their continued support, noting that their contributions played a key role in securing the national recognition.
The statement was issued by the Department of Press and Public Affairs of the Monrovia City Corporation.
