MONROVIA – The Ministry of Labour has strongly warned two online television platforms, Rescue TV and Gar TV, for allegedly using their platforms to intimidate businesses and investors under the guise of acting on behalf of labour inspectors.
The Ministry’s Inspector General, John Kangbah, disclosed that his office has received multiple complaints from investors and business owners who claim that individuals linked to the two platforms have been visiting workplaces and presenting themselves as acting on behalf of the Ministry’s Labour Inspection Department.
Speaking at a press conference held in Congo Town on Monday, Kangbah described the alleged actions as misleading and unauthorized, warning that such conduct undermines the credibility of the Ministry and creates fear within the business community.
He stressed that no media institution or individual outside the official labour inspection structure is permitted to conduct inspections or represent the Ministry in any form.
Kangbah further urged business owners and investors to always verify and demand proper identification from anyone claiming to be a labour inspector before granting access to their premises.
“We are encouraging all businesses and investors to demand the identities of anyone posing as labour inspectors,” he said.
He also revealed that the Ministry of Labour will soon address the matter formally by writing to the leadership of the Press Union of Liberia, lodging a complaint against the two online television platforms over their alleged conduct.
The Ministry emphasized its commitment to maintaining transparency and protecting both workers and businesses from misinformation and unauthorized enforcement activities.
