The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, has reportedly conducted an assessment visit to the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), as national discussions intensify over access to safe drinking water and the state of water infrastructure across Liberia.
The visit comes at a time of increased public and legislative scrutiny of the country’s water supply system, with particular attention on ongoing infrastructure projects, pipeline rehabilitation, and efforts to expand access to safe drinking water in both Monrovia and rural areas.
During the engagement, the Speaker is said to have reviewed ongoing operations and facilities at the corporation, which remains Liberia’s primary institution responsible for water supply and sewerage services.
In recent months, the LWSC has highlighted several development initiatives being implemented in collaboration with international partners, including the World Bank and the African Development Bank.
These projects are aimed at improving water distribution systems and expanding access to clean and reliable water sources nationwide.
The Speaker’s visit also follows recent discussions in the House of Representatives, where lawmakers have raised questions regarding national water coverage and requested clarification from LWSC management on the current state of access to safe drinking water across the country.
Lawmakers are reportedly seeking more detailed updates on the progress of ongoing projects and the challenges affecting consistent water delivery in major urban and rural communities.
The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation continues to oversee key national infrastructure aimed at improving water supply and sanitation services, particularly in Monrovia and surrounding areas, where demand continues to exceed supply in several communities.
Further details on the outcome of the Speaker’s assessment visit are expected as engagements between the Legislature and LWSC continue.
