Monrovia-The Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA) and major palm oil concessionaires have agreed to establish a six-member technical committee to address regulatory and operational challenges affecting Liberia’s palm oil sector.
Speaking during the Ministry of Information press briefing, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs Danlie Sando said the agreement followed a strategic dialogue between LACRA and representatives of major palm oil concessionaires operating in Liberia.
Deputy Minister Sando said the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and creating a structured platform for regular engagement between the regulator and concessionaires.
He said key issues discussed included regulatory and export compliance, quality control, royalty obligations and operational challenges affecting the palm oil industry.
According to Sando, the parties also discussed strategies for addressing emerging issues within the sector.
He said the technical committee will comprise three representatives from LACRA and three representatives from the concessionaires.
Deputy Minister Sando said the committee will review the regulatory framework governing Liberia’s oil palm sector, with particular attention to royalty obligations, quality control, regulatory compliance and export requirements.
He said the terms of reference for the committee are expected to be developed in consultation with representatives of the concessionaires.
Sando said the committee is expected to begin its work immediately.
The engagement is part of efforts to strengthen coordination between the government and private sector operators within Liberia’s agricultural commodity industry.
According to Deputy Minister Sando, the dialogue is expected to provide a platform for addressing regulatory concerns and improving cooperation within the palm oil sector.
