Monrovia-The Government of Japan has provided approximately 250 million Japanese yen, equivalent to about US$1.5 million, toward the construction of an infectious disease clinic in Maryland County.
Speaking during the Ministry of Information press briefing, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs Danlie Sando said the project is expected to strengthen Liberia’s capacity to respond to infectious diseases and improve access to specialized healthcare services in southeastern Liberia.
Deputy Minister Sando said the clinic will be constructed at the J.J. Dossen Hospital in Harper, Maryland County.
He said the Ministry of Health will oversee implementation of the project, while Tech International Incorporated will serve as the contractor.
According to Sando, the funding forms part of Japan’s support to Liberia’s health sector and is expected to contribute to the expansion of health infrastructure outside Monrovia.
He said the project is also expected to improve the ability of health authorities in Maryland County to provide services to patients affected by infectious diseases.
Deputy Minister Sando said international partnerships in the health sector are important to strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system and improving access to health services for citizens in the counties.
The project is expected to expand healthcare capacity in southeastern Liberia and provide additional infrastructure for the treatment and management of infectious diseases.
