MONROVIA-Montserrado County District #13 Representative Edward Flomo has accused the head of the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), Julius K. Sele, of allegedly withholding and personally benefiting from funds intended for development projects in the district.
Speaking to residents of District #13 recently, Representative Flomo alleged that since 2024, US$50,000 annually allocated for the district’s development has not been used for its intended purpose.
According to the lawmaker, the alleged amount accumulated approximately US$150,000 between 2024 and 2026.
Representative Flomo said the funds could have been used to support critical development initiatives, particularly the construction and improvement of schools in the district.
The lawmaker also expressed support for a planned protest by young people in the district over what they described as the failure to make development funds available.
Flomo pledged to sponsor the planned demonstration and ensure that it attracts broader participation.
He vowed to continue pressuring the LACE boss until the alleged funds are accounted for and made available for the development of District #13.
However, Representative Flomo did not specify what action he would pursue beyond supporting the planned protest.
The lawmaker also accused the Montserrado County Superintendent Whroway Bryant of allegedly making false claims concerning his involvement in supervising a development project in the district. Flomo described the claim as a “big lie.”
He further criticized the appointment of individuals to government positions, arguing that people facing financial difficulties could be tempted to use public office for personal enrichment.
The allegations have sparked concerns among residents and members of the public about transparency and accountability in the management of public development funds.
As of the time of publication, there had been no public response from Julius K. Sele, LACE, the Montserrado County Superintendent, or the Ministry of Information regarding the allegations.
