MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia has welcomed the approval of the World Food Programme (WFP) Country Strategic Plan (2026–2030), describing it as a significant milestone in advancing national efforts to improve school feeding, nutrition, and human capital development.
The approval came during the recent WFP Executive Board session in Rome, where Liberia’s delegation, led by Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, engaged with WFP leadership, Executive Board members, and development partners on key priorities aimed at supporting the country’s education and development agenda.
According to the Ministry of Education, the newly approved five-year Country Strategic Plan places strong emphasis on strengthening national systems, including school feeding, emergency preparedness and response, and resilient supply chains. These priorities are aligned with Liberia’s broader efforts to improve access to quality education while enhancing the health and well-being of school-age children.
The Ministry noted that through initiatives such as the Back to My Classroom Campaign and the National School Feeding Program, the government is working to ensure that children not only return to school but also remain in the classroom and achieve better learning outcomes.
Currently, nearly 240,000 learners across Liberia benefit from school meals under the National School Feeding Program. The government aims to expand the initiative to approximately 332,000 learners in more than 1,900 schools nationwide by 2029.
Education officials said the expansion reflects Liberia’s commitment to strengthening human capital through increased investment in education and child nutrition, while promoting sustainable and nationally owned development programs.
The Ministry of Education also expressed appreciation to the World Food Programme and other development partners for their continued collaboration, emphasizing that the partnership remains vital to building resilient education systems, improving nutrition, and creating greater opportunities for children across the country.
The newly approved WFP Country Strategic Plan is expected to serve as a key framework for continued cooperation between Liberia and its development partners over the next five years as the country pursues inclusive and sustainable development goals.
