Monrovia-Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah has rejected reports claiming that Liberia’s delegation walked out of the United Nations General Assembly Hall while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was delivering his address.
Minister Piah described the reports as false and misleading, saying Liberia’s representatives remained present in the General Assembly Hall during Netanyahu’s speech.
The Information Minister made the clarification in an interview with DN News Liberia, following reports circulating that Liberia was among countries whose delegations left the hall during the Israeli Prime Minister’s address.
According to Piah, Liberia was represented in the General Assembly Hall at the time of the speech by the Deputy Chief of Mission of Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, along with other Liberian officials.
He therefore said the claim that the Liberian delegation walked out during Netanyahu’s address does not accurately reflect Liberia’s presence at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The reports have circulated amid heightened international attention surrounding the Israeli Prime Minister’s appearance before the UN General Assembly.
Piah said the Liberian Government considers it important to clarify the information to prevent what he described as inaccurate reporting about the country’s delegation and its activities during the high-level UN gathering.
He maintained that Liberia’s delegation was represented in the hall and did not leave during the speech as alleged.
The clarification from the Information Minister comes as Liberia participates in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where the country’s delegation is taking part in various meetings and engagements on the sidelines of the gathering.
Piah also urged the public and media institutions to rely on verified information when reporting on Liberia’s participation in international events, particularly matters involving the country’s official delegation.
The Liberian Government maintains that reports suggesting that its delegation walked out during Netanyahu’s speech are inaccurate and do not reflect the delegation’s presence at the time of the address.
