CONGO TOWN–Nimba County Senator Samule Kogar, was expelled on Saturday following a decision reached by the Executive Committee of the party-Movement for Democracy and Reconciliation (MDR).
The spokesperson for the MDR, Kelvin D. J. Mattaldi, told New Republic late Saturday that the party was compelled to expel him because his actions were contrary to the party’s constitution and bi-laws.
Senator Kogar, following the death of senator Prince Johnson, who was considered as ‘god father’ for Nimba County, declared to himself the title.
He and vice president of Liberia, Jeremiah Koung, who supported his camping to win the senatorial election have been at odd. But the vice president has said he considered Kogar as his big brother and would remain at that level.
Senator Kogar was an elected representative, who later ran on the Party’s ticket after the death of warlord Prince Johnson.
The spokesman said the decision to expel the senator was the result of his failure to live up to campaign promises during the senatorial election, and coupled with the senator’s constant divisive statements among partisans.
Mr. Mattalda said while it is true the Vice President, His Excellency Jeremiah Kpan Koung was once head of the MDR, and now with the Unity Party (UP), he wants the public to understand that at no time His Excellency, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung Sr. Played a role in the expulsion of Senator Kogar.
He added that the party is an independent political party that has individuals, and partisans capable of making independent decisions for or within the party.
Meanwhile, Senator Kogar has accused the government of using some people in the MDR to illegally remove him from the party. The allegation which is posted on the senator’s social media page, further threatened legal action against those who removed the senator from the party.
