HARPER, Maryland County —House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has fulfilled a commitment made during his 2025 county tour by donating a staff bus to the J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital in Harper City, Maryland County.
The vehicle, donated through the Richard Nagbe Koon Foundation, was formally presented to the hospital during a ceremony in Harper on Thursday, September 24, 2026, bringing to fruition a promise Koon made during his visit to the county last year.

The white staff bus, decorated with red, white and blue balloons, was presented as transportation support for employees of the J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital.
Speaking during the ceremony, Speaker Koon recalled his commitment to the hospital during his 2025 county tour and said the donation represented the fulfillment of that promise.
He said the intervention was intended to support hospital workers by providing dedicated transportation, particularly as they carry out their responsibilities in serving patients and communities in Maryland County.
The donation was received on behalf of the hospital administration by Dr. Shedrick K. Gono, who spoke during the program and expressed appreciation for the support.
Dr. Gono, speaking on behalf of the hospital’s administrators, highlighted the importance of reliable transportation for health workers and the potential role of the bus in supporting staff mobility and the delivery of healthcare services.
He thanked Speaker Koon and the Richard Nagbe Koon Foundation for responding to a need identified during the Speaker’s previous visit to the county.
The ceremony brought together hospital administrators, health workers, community members and other officials and guests, with several speakers addressing the gathering.
The presentation also featured remarks from community and public officials, who spoke about the importance of supporting the J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital and strengthening the capacity of health workers in Maryland County.
The donation comes as the hospital continues to serve residents of Harper and surrounding communities, making staff transportation an important operational consideration.
For hospital employees, the arrival of the bus provides a dedicated means of transportation that could assist with staff movement and other official activities connected to the hospital’s operations.
The ceremony ended with the formal presentation of the vehicle to the hospital administrators, marking the completion of a commitment first announced during Koon’s 2025 tour of Maryland County.
