MONROVIA -Team Giko, through its representative Mr. Alex Bax Davies, has presented a check valued at LRD 140,000 to the administration of the LICOSESS College of Education in Pleebo, Maryland County, as part of efforts to support students pursuing careers in teaching and education.
The presentation ceremony which took place on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the institution campus, brought together administrators, beneficiaries, community members, and local stakeholders, all of whom praised the initiative as a significant contribution toward strengthening education in southeastern Liberia.
Presenting the check on behalf of Team Giko, Mr. Davies said the initiative is intended to ease some of the financial burdens faced by students, especially those studying to become teachers.
He emphasized that education remains one of the most important pillars for national development and noted that supporting future educators is essential for building a stronger educational system in Liberia.
According to him, Team Giko believes that teachers deserve more attention and support because they play a critical role in shaping the next generation of leaders.
“We believe investing in teachers is investing in the future of our country.
Many students are struggling financially, and this initiative is intended to encourage them to remain focused on their education,” Mr. Davies stated during the presentation.
The administration of LICOSESS College of Education expressed appreciation to Team Giko for the timely intervention and described the donation as a major boost for students facing financial difficulties.
Mr. Richard Teah, Registrar and acting County Coordinator of the Licosess college also disclosed that several students at the institution continue to struggle with tuition and other educational expenses, making such support very meaningful.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms. Susannah Sieh thanked Mr. Giko and Team Giko for the financial aid program, describing it as a source of hope and motivation for many students.
“This support means a lot to us because many of us are facing serious financial challenges in school. We are grateful to Mr. Giko and Team Giko for remembering students like us. This assistance will encourage us to continue our education and work hard toward achieving our goals,” she said.
Ms. Sieh further noted that the initiative demonstrates that there are still people willing to invest in the future of young Liberians through education.
Several beneficiaries at the program also praised the initiative and called on other leaders and institutions to emulate such efforts aimed at empowering students and improving the educational sector.
The event forms part of Team Giko’s broader educational assistance initiative, which seeks to support students at various academic levels, including teacher training institutions and universities across the region.
Observers at the ceremony described the donation as a positive step toward strengthening educational opportunities in Maryland County, particularly for students preparing to enter the teaching profession.
