Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Sr. on Sunday paid a courtesy visit to the residence of former Unity Party Chairman and former Minister of Mines and Energy Wilmot Paye, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to unity, peace, reconciliation, and national development.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Vice President, the visit reflected the longstanding relationship between the two leaders and highlighted the importance of dialogue and collaboration in advancing the interests of Nimba County and Liberia.
Describing the visit as “a younger brother paying a visit to his elder brother,” Vice President Koung said the meeting symbolized the values of mutual respect, family, and togetherness that continue to unite the people of Nimba County and Liberia.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed issues affecting Nimba County and the country’s broader development agenda. They stressed the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and shared responsibility in addressing national challenges while preserving Liberia’s peace and stability.
Vice President Koung said sustainable national progress can only be achieved when leaders rise above political differences and work together in the interest of the Liberian people. He added that unity is essential for strengthening democratic governance, promoting reconciliation, accelerating economic growth, and improving the welfare of citizens.
Mr. Paye welcomed the Vice President’s visit and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace, development, and greater collaboration among Liberians in pursuit of national progress.
Both leaders agreed that the future of Nimba County and Liberia depends on continued dialogue, mutual respect, and a collective commitment to placing the national interest above individual or political considerations.
However, beyond the official explanation, the visit has generated public discussion. Some citizens have questioned whether the meeting was solely intended to promote reconciliation and collaborative leadership or whether it also carried broader political significance. As of now, neither the Office of the Vice President nor Mr. Paye has indicated that the meeting was connected to any political arrangement beyond the objectives outlined in the official statement.
The Office of the Vice President maintained that the courtesy visit demonstrated statesmanship and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering unity, inclusiveness, and constructive engagement with leaders and stakeholders across Liberia in support of the Government’s development agenda.
