The World Health Organization has honored Louise Mapleh Kpoto with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her leadership in advancing tobacco control efforts in Liberia.
The recognition was presented as part of activities commemorating World No Tobacco Day 2026, a global campaign aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and promoting stronger public health policies.
According to the WHO, the award acknowledges Dr. Kpoto’s contributions toward strengthening tobacco control measures and improving Liberia’s public health system.
The certificate was received on behalf of the Health Minister by Representative Julie Fatormah Wiah during the official observance marking the occasion.
WHO noted that the recognition reflects Liberia’s increasing commitment to reducing tobacco consumption, preventing tobacco-related illnesses, and supporting international efforts geared toward building healthier communities.
World No Tobacco Day is observed annually by the WHO and its partners to encourage governments, institutions and individuals to take action against tobacco use and its health consequences.
