Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, has arrived in Beijing for an official visit at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
According to a dispatch from Beijing, Minister Beysolow-Nyanti is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Wang Yi on Tuesday, May 19, as both countries seek to strengthen diplomatic ties and expand areas of cooperation between Liberia and China.
The Chinese Foreign Minister, who also serves as a Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, is expected to host a dinner in honor of the Liberian Foreign Minister following the talks.
Discussions between the two sides are anticipated to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting multilateral cooperation, and enhancing coordination on reforms within the United Nations Security Council and its subsidiary bodies.
Liberia is also expected to reaffirm its commitment to greater international cooperation and inclusive global governance.
The visit follows growing diplomatic engagement between the two nations under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Relations between Liberia and China were elevated to a “strategic partnership” during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation summit.
As part of her visit, Minister Beysolow-Nyanti is also scheduled to meet with Chen Xiaodong, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), China’s lead agency responsible for development cooperation and foreign aid initiatives.
The Liberian Foreign Minister will additionally deliver remarks at China Foreign Affairs University, where she is expected to speak on Liberia’s foreign policy objectives, economic diplomacy, peacebuilding efforts, and the country’s role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
Minister Beysolow-Nyanti is also expected to travel to Shenzhen, where she will visit the Liberia Chamber of Commerce trade office and meet with municipal officials, including Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong.
The Shenzhen engagement follows a 2025 visit to Liberia by a 19-member Chinese delegation aimed at deepening cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
The Foreign Minister is accompanied by Deputy Minister for International Cooperation Ibrahim Nyei and Assistant Minister and Chief of Office Staff Saran Kaba Jones.
