MONROVIA – Western Cluster Liberia Limited (WCL) has reinforced its commitment to sustainable community development and food security through the distribution of improved rice seeds to more than fifty farming groups and individual farmers across Bomi County. Overall, 900+ community members stand to benefit from the initiative.
This initiative forms part of WCL’s broader agricultural support program aimed at enhancing productivity , bringing down input costs on seed, strengthening rural livelihoods, augmenting household incomes & promoting food self-sufficiency within host communities.
The distribution ceremony received wide community backing with prominent community members including Madam Sando G. Baker, Senjeh District Agriculture Officer, Amos GE Zeon, Regional Agricultural Coordinator along with Mr Inayat Davngiri, CEO, Bomi Mines, WCL and other company officials and community members attending the event.
Commending WCL for the initiative and committing to providing support, Madam Sando G. Baker, Senjeh District Agriculture Officer , said: “The initiative will immensely benefit the Bomi community and contribute to food security. We highly commend Western Cluster for this timely and impactful intervention, which has the potential to significantly transform rice production in Bomi County. We will continue to provide technical guidance to farmers to support seed multiplication and ensure the long-term sustainability of this program.”
Mr. Inayat Davangiri, CEO, Bomi Mines, underscored WCL’s focus on meaningful community engagement and said, “We at WCL, remain committed to working closely with the people of Bomi County in ways that create lasting impact. Agriculture is central to our initiatives aimed at building community resilience, and supporting farmers directly strengthens livelihoods and food security. From swamp rice cultivation to seed multiplication programs, we have consistently supported farmers to enhance productivity and build resilience.”
He emphasized the technical strength of the program, further adding that, “The seeds distributed are high-yield and early-maturing varieties, cultivated and processed from our own agricultural fields to ensure suitability to local conditions. Our objective is to see these seeds multiplied across communities, enabling Bomi County to progressively move towards rice self-sufficiency.”
Blama B Kollie , one of the beneficiary farmer said, “We are grateful to Western Cluster for this support. These seeds will help us expand our farms and increase production. We are committed to multiplying them for the benefit of our communities.” Soko J Coope, another community member from Bomi, echoed the sentiments and expressed hope that the initiative will contribute to food security in Bomi County.
In addition to the seed distribution, WCL has consistently partnered farmers through initiatives such as swamp rice cultivation, capacity building through training, promoting optimal agronomic practices and the effective use of agricultural tools and equipment. In Tubmanburg the Company undertook continuous monitoring and supervision across the full crop cycle, ensuring improved efficiency and sustainable farming outcomes.
