PAYNESVILLE–President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has dedicated a modern public latrine at the ELWA Joebar Market in Paynesville, in a move aimed at improving sanitation and public health for market vendors, customers and residents in the surrounding community.
The facility, known as the Gormeh Torlay, was established by the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) as part of efforts to support improved sanitation and provide essential public infrastructure within the community.

Speaking during the dedication, President Boakai underscored the importance of investing in basic infrastructure that directly affects the health and well-being of citizens.
The newly dedicated facility is expected to provide safer and more hygienic sanitation services to people who frequent the market, while helping to address longstanding sanitation challenges associated with busy public spaces.
The project also highlights the potential of collaboration between government and private-sector institutions in addressing critical community needs.

The provision of the modern latrine is expected to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment at the ELWA Joebar Market, where large numbers of vendors and customers converge daily.
The dedication forms part of broader efforts to improve public sanitation and promote healthier living conditions in communities across Liberia.
The initiative further demonstrates the importance of directing investments toward basic services that can have a direct impact on public health, environmental cleanliness and the quality of life of ordinary citizens.
