Monrovia, June 23 – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Liberia’s energy sector after receiving a comprehensive performance briefing from the leadership of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC).
The meeting, held Monday at the Executive Mansion, brought together LPRC Board Chair Aaron Weagar, Managing Director Amos Tweh, senior management officials, and members of the company’s board to discuss the institution’s first-quarter performance and long-term strategic plans.
During the engagement, LPRC officials presented the company’s First Quarter 2026 Performance Report and 2025 Annual Report, outlining operational achievements, financial results, and ongoing efforts to improve the country’s petroleum storage and distribution infrastructure.
A key focus of the briefing was the proposed 50,000-metric-ton tank farm project, which LPRC described as a major investment intended to expand Liberia’s fuel storage capacity, strengthen national energy security, and support economic growth.
President Boakai commended the board and management team for their commitment to transparency, accountability, and institutional performance. He stressed the need for a reliable and sustainable petroleum sector capable of supporting Liberia’s development agenda and meeting the country’s growing energy demands.
The President also encouraged LPRC leadership to continue implementing initiatives that improve operational efficiency, build public trust, and position the company as a stronger contributor to national development.
The meeting forms part of the Boakai administration’s ongoing efforts to engage state-owned enterprises, monitor institutional performance, and ensure that government agencies align their priorities with broader national development goals.
The proposed tank farm project, if implemented, is expected to significantly increase Liberia’s petroleum storage capacity and enhance the country’s ability to manage fuel supplies during periods of market volatility and supply disruptions.
