The opposition political party, the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), has suffered another internal setback following the resignation of one of its senior officials, B. Mack Gblinwon, who served as the party’s National Vice Chairman for Recruitment and Mobilization.
Gblinwon officially tendered his resignation amid growing concerns over what he described as poor leadership, disrespect, intimidation, and exclusion from key decision-making processes within the party.
In his resignation communication, May 8, 2026, Gblinwon stated that he could no longer continue serving under the current leadership structure of the movement, noting that his contributions and efforts toward the growth of the institution were repeatedly ignored and undermined.
According to him, the leadership atmosphere within the party had become increasingly uncomfortable, leaving him with no option but to step away from his position.
The former recruitment and mobilization chairman further alleged that despite his commitment and active involvement in strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, he was frequently excluded from important discussions and strategic decisions affecting the movement.
Gblinwon’s resignation comes just weeks after the resignation of the party’s former Secretary General, Wilfred Bangura.
The CMC now appears to be experiencing deepening internal divisions ahead of the 2029 presidential election, as multiple resignations and defections continue to raise concerns about the party’s stability.
Political observers believe that Gblinwon’s resignation could further intensify concerns about internal unity within the CMC, especially as the party seeks to strengthen its political presence and influence across Liberia ahead of future electoral activities.
Meanwhile, party officials have not yet publicly responded to the resignation or addressed the allegations raised by the former executive member.
