MONROVIA–A Liberian clergyman, Prophet Sammy David has called on gospel musicians nationwide to change the way they see themselves, urging them to go beyond identifying as entertainers and recognize their role as ministers of God.
Prophet Sammy said gospel artists should understand that their calling carries a greater responsibility than simply singing music for entertainment and celebration.
According to him, while musicians may entertain people, gospel artists are expected to use their music as a tool to minister to people and win souls for God.
He argued that when gospel musicians begin to see themselves as ministers, God can work through them and use their songs to impact lives spiritually.
The man of God made the remarks days ago when he attended the funeral service of the late Liberian musician, Miracle Ketter.
The pastor of God’s Family Church International said his message was particularly directed at gospel musicians who are interested in singing but are not willing to live lives that reflect the message they preach through their music.
According to Prophet Sammy, gospel musicians should see themselves as representatives of God on earth, and that representation should be reflected not only in their songs but also in their daily lifestyles.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, Prophet Sammy described the death of Miracle Ketter as untimely, maintaining that it was not God’s original plan for her life.
He defended his position by saying that the late musician had not reached the age of 70 and, in his view, had not yet accomplished her mission on earth.
Also speaking on the same day, Apostle Daniel Barjebo shared what he described as a prophecy, calling on Liberians to return to God.
According to Apostle Barjebo, God revealed to him that Liberians should return to Him and remember that the foundation of the country was built on faith in God.
He urged citizens to reflect on their spiritual lives and seek a renewed relationship with the Lord.
Whether gospel musicians across Liberia will embrace Prophet Sammy David’s call remains to be seen.
However, his message has awakened discussion about the responsibility of gospel artists and the role their lifestyles play alongside the music they produce.
