MONROVIA–Liberia is said to be in active preparation to fully and adequately participate in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with the high-level week scheduled for September 22 to 29 in New York.
Information Jerolinmik Piah told newsmen Tuesday at the Ministry press conference that Liberia is expected to use the General Assembly to advance its national priorities while contributing to discussions on peace and security, institutional development, climate change, global health, sustainable development and digital government.
According to Piah, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai will lead a Liberian delegation to the General Assembly, which will bring together world leaders for discussions on major global issues.
He also announced several high-level side events that Liberia will host on the margins of the General Assembly.
According to Minister Piah, the first event, scheduled for September 18, will focus on strengthening African voices for the United Nations Security Council and investing in pathways for peace.
Another high-level event is scheduled for September 21 and will focus on women, the United Nations, peace and security, as well as the broader Women, Peace and Security agenda.
Minister Piah said the Environmental Protection Agency will also host a side event on September 23 focusing on the relationship between conflict and natural resources and pathways toward peace, resilience and sustainable development.
He further disclosed that President Boakai is expected to present Liberia’s priorities during the General Debate on September 24 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The Minister said Liberia’s participation in the General Assembly is expected to provide an opportunity for the country to advance its national interests while contributing to international discussions on issues affecting global peace, development and security.
