President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has received congratulatory messages from more than 35 Heads of State, Heads of Government, and international organizations as Liberia marked its 179th Independence Anniversary.
The messages, presented through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the national Independence Day celebration in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, recognized Liberia’s longstanding democratic tradition, its contributions to regional and global peace, and President Boakai’s leadership in promoting stability, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
The national celebration was held under the theme, “Strengthening National Identity Through Liberian-Led Historical Leadership.”
Presenting the messages, Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti said the overwhelming expressions of goodwill reflect Liberia’s strong bilateral and multilateral relationships with countries and international institutions around the world.
According to the Ministry, congratulatory messages were received from more than 35 world leaders, including King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, President Lee Jae-myung of the Republic of Korea, President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana, President Taye Atske Selassie of Ethiopia, President Joseph Aoun of Lebanon, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, and King Mohammed VI of Morocco.
Additional messages came from King Charles III of the United Kingdom, President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, President Christine Kangaloo of Trinidad and Tobago, President Maia Sandu of Moldova, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany, and Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani.
Other leaders who extended Independence Day greetings included Pope Leo XIV of the Holy See, President Paul Biya of Cameroon, President Xi Jinping of China, President Andrzej Duda of Poland, President Droupadi Murmu of India, President Azali Assoumani of the Union of the Comoros, and President Emmanuel Macron of France.
The Government also received messages from Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Jan Lipavský, United States President Donald J. Trump, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Irish President Michael D. Higgins, Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya, and Speaker Hyacinth Alia of the Nevis Island Legislature.
Speaking on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, President Boakai expressed appreciation for the messages of goodwill, describing them as a reflection of the strong diplomatic ties and enduring friendships Liberia continues to enjoy with countries across the world.
The Government of Liberia said the congratulatory messages reaffirm the country’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships while advancing its national development agenda through cooperation with the global community.
