MONROVIA–The Liberia Maritime Authority has made available five scholarships for Liberian Students to study at Shangai Maritime University in China . The recipients, three male and two female were accepted through an independent and competitive vetting process.
They are expected to leave for China on September 9, 2026 to commence advanced studies in the Maritime sector. The scholarships were provided through a memorandum of Understanding that was signed in 2025 between the Liberia Maritime Authority and Shanghai University in China.
A key component of the agreement is for the provision of scholarship opportunities for talented Liberian students to pursue degrees and specialized technical training in the Maritime Industry. Shanghai Maritime University is widely recognized as a leading institution for Maritime shipping and Transport Education in China and globally.
Under Cllr.Neto Zarzar Lighe sr. Leadership, LIMA has increasingly placed capacity building, professional training and international partnerships at the center of its institutional development strategy. The scholarships are therefore viewed as part of a broader effort to create a new generation of highly trained Liberian maritime professionals capable of contributing to the country’s maritime transformation.
The Authority believes that the recipients advanced training in China will not only benefit them, but will ultimately contribute to the institutional capacity of Liberia’s maritime sector when they return and apply the knowledge and expertise to the advancement of the industry.
