Monrovia-A probe has been launched by the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) into allegations of bribery and extortion involving three of its employees, including two Assistant Commissioners, following accusations that they collected money from a Nigerian businessman in connection with a proposed software development contract.
The allegations were reportedly raised during a live radio broadcast on October 28, 2026, and later circulated on social media, prompting the Authority to initiate an internal investigation.
According to an LRA press release issued on October 30, the accusations were made by an individual identified as a Nigerian businessman, who claimed that the three employees obtained money from him under the pretext of facilitating the award of a contract to develop software for the revenue institution.
The Authority said Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah has instructed its Professional Ethics Division to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.
The investigation is intended to establish the facts surrounding the allegations, with the LRA indicating that safeguards have been introduced to preserve evidence, prevent interference, and ensure fairness throughout the process.
The Authority emphasized that the allegations against the employees remain unproven and that those involved are entitled to due process and fair treatment.
It also noted that any interim administrative measures would be considered in line with its Human Resource Policy, ethical guidelines, and established procedures.
Speaking on the matter, Commissioner General Jallah stressed that the institution would not tolerate misconduct among its employees.
“The LRA belongs to the Liberian people, and public trust is the foundation of everything we do. These allegations are serious, and they will be investigated fully, fairly and without fear or favor. No one is above the rules of this Authority,” Jallah said.
He further stated that appropriate action would be taken if wrongdoing is established, while employees cleared of the allegations would also be publicly exonerated.
The LRA assured the public that administrative or disciplinary measures would follow if misconduct is confirmed. It added that cases warranting further action would be referred to relevant national authorities in accordance with applicable laws.
The Authority has also encouraged individuals with credible information about the allegations to report through its whistleblowing platform available on its official website.
The LRA said information submitted through the platform would be handled in accordance with applicable confidentiality procedures.
The investigation comes amid public concerns about accountability and integrity in public institutions, particularly those responsible for administering government revenue and enforcing tax laws.
As the investigation progresses, attention will be focused on whether the allegations can be substantiated and what actions the Authority will take based on the findings.
The LRA said it intends to provide public updates at appropriate stages of the investigation while protecting the integrity of the process and the rights of the employees involved.
