MONROVIA – Representative Emmanuel Dahn of Montserrado County Electoral District #7 on Sunday visited the scene of a devastating fire outbreak near the Housing Bank in the Waterside commercial district, where several businesses were destroyed in a blaze that erupted Saturday evening.
The lawmaker toured the affected area to assess the extent of the damage and interact with business owners whose shops and goods were consumed by the fire.
The massive blaze ripped through business structures in one of Monrovia’s busiest commercial hubs, sending thick smoke into the sky and prompting a swift response from firefighters.
Emergency responders worked to contain the fire while assisting traders and shop owners in evacuating merchandise from nearby buildings to prevent further losses.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as business owners rushed to salvage goods before the flames spread across the densely packed market area.
Although firefighters managed to intervene, several business establishments were reportedly destroyed, leaving many traders facing significant financial losses.
During his visit, Representative Dahn expressed concern over the destruction and commended emergency responders for their efforts to bring the fire under control. He also sympathized with affected business owners, many of whom depend on their daily trade for their livelihoods.
The cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined, and authorities are expected to launch an investigation to establish what sparked the blaze.
Government officials and the Liberia National Fire Service are expected to provide further details, including an assessment of the damage and any casualties, as investigations continue.
The Waterside commercial district is Liberia’s largest trading center, and fire outbreaks have long been a concern due to congested market conditions and closely packed business structures. Saturday’s incident has renewed calls for improved fire prevention measures and stronger emergency preparedness in the area.
