MONROVIA – Grand Gedeh County Senator Yeye Nimely has accused the Executive Branch of showing “arrogance and disrespect” toward the Liberian Senate over the rollout of the controversial LMTI concession.
Speaking during a heated Senate debate on the agreement, Nimely criticized the government for moving forward with enforcement despite unresolved questions raised during earlier Senate hearings.
The senator said lawmakers found inconsistencies in the concession documents presented to the committee.
“During the hearing, we discovered that Page 21 on one copy of the document said one thing, while the same Page 21 on another copy said something else,” Nimely revealed.
He also said the Executive had assured the Senate that lawmakers would be fully briefed before any rollout of the concession.
That commitment, according to Nimely, was not honored.
Nimely’s remarks come as public concern mounts over LMTI’s services.
Hundreds of Liberians have been demanding greater transparency and accountability from government on how the concession is being implemented.
The dispute highlights ongoing tension between the Senate and the Executive over oversight of major agreements.
Senators argue they must vet discrepancies and ensure public interests are protected before concessions take effect, while the Executive maintains the need to move projects forward.
The LMTI concession has remained a flashpoint, with critics questioning service quality and lawmakers pushing for clarity on terms before enforcement continues
