MONROVIA–With Prophet Key expected to complete his six-month custodial sentence on August 13, 2026, questions are emerging over whether he has fully complied with the conditions imposed by the Supreme Court of Liberia following his conviction for contempt.
The controversy centers on the extent to which the social commentator has satisfied the corrective measures ordered by the Supreme Court in addition to serving his prison sentence.
Information available indicates that Prophet Key has taken steps toward compliance, including issuing a formal apology and submitting a behavior bond through his legal representatives to the Clerk of the Supreme Court.
However, questions remain over the publication of the apology, which was ordered by the Court as part of the conditions attached to its decision.
The Supreme Court’s contempt ruling required Prophet Key to publicly apologize for statements concerning members of the nation’s highest court. The ruling further directed that the apology be published in regular Liberian newspapers for five consecutive days.
While Prophet Key subsequently issued the written apology, available information suggests that the publication requirement was not completed for the full period stipulated by the Court.
That development has raised the question of whether the measures undertaken by Prophet Key amount to full compliance with the Supreme Court’s order or only substantial compliance.
The distinction is significant because the Court’s directive did not merely require an apology to be made. It also prescribed a particular method through which the apology was to be made public.
The filing of the behavior bond represents another step taken by Prophet Key ahead of his expected release. The bond reportedly commits him to refrain from repeating the conduct that resulted in his contempt conviction.
However, the existence of the bond and the issuance of the apology do not, by themselves, resolve whether every condition contained in the Supreme Court’s opinion has been satisfied.
As August 13 approaches, the central issue therefore remains whether the Supreme Court or the appropriate judicial authorities will consider the steps taken by Prophet Key sufficient to satisfy the conditions of the Court’s decision.
Based on the information currently available, Prophet Key appears to have taken significant steps toward compliance, but the reported failure to complete the required newspaper publication leaves uncertainty over whether his compliance can be considered complete.
His expected release consequently comes amid an unresolved question: Did Prophet Key fully comply with the Supreme Court’s order, or did he only substantially comply with its requirements?
The determination ultimately rests with the Supreme Court and the relevant authorities responsible for interpreting and enforcing the conditions of its ruling.
