MONROVIA – Almost three years after the razor-thin election outcome in favor of the ruling Unity Party (UP) against the then ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), anger against the former is not going away, in terms of the propaganda, trick and hoodwink it allegedly used to make its way to power.
Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has reignited the argument about the UP’s divisive and deceiving political tactics during the election, accusing it of indulging into propaganda and negative messaging against the CDC administration to secure victory in the 2023 general elections.
Speaking Tuesday morning on Okay FM, Taylor argued that the Unity Party’s campaign centered on portraying Liberia as a country overwhelmed by drugs, youth unemployment, failing businesses, and other socioeconomic challenges under the CDC-led government.
According to the former vice president, those campaign messages convinced many Liberians to support the Unity Party, helping it win the presidency.
Taylor, who also served as Liberia’s First Lady, contended that the current administration has failed to adequately address many of the issues it criticized while in opposition.
She maintained that the concerns the Unity Party highlighted during the campaign remain unresolved despite being in government, adding that the administration has struggled to deliver on its promises.
The former vice president also defended the CDC government’s development record, asserting that several of the country’s major infrastructure projects, including road rehabilitation and the construction of public bridges, were initiated during the administration of former President George Weah.
Her remarks come amid growing political debate over the performance of the Boakai administration, with opposition figures increasingly questioning the government’s progress on campaign commitments related to job creation, economic recovery, and the fight against drug abuse.
