Monrovia-The Government of Liberia is set to construct a US$1.5 million Infectious Disease Clinic at the J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital in Harper, Maryland County, in a move expected to strengthen the county’s capacity to prevent, diagnose, and manage infectious diseases.
A delegation comprising representatives of the Ministry of Health, TEC International, PM Group of Companies, and the Maryland County Health Team on Friday, October 2, briefed Maryland County’s local government authorities on the planned project.
The engagement was intended to provide the county administration with details about the proposed facility, its objectives, and its expected contribution to healthcare delivery in Maryland County and the wider southeastern region of Liberia.
According to members of the delegation, the specialized clinic will enhance the capacity of health authorities to respond to infectious diseases by providing improved infrastructure and services for disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management.
The project is being financed through a grant from the Government of Japan as part of its support to Liberia’s health sector and ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the country.
TEC International Project Manager Keizo Inoue emphasized the importance of the project during the briefing and highlighted its potential contribution to improving healthcare services in Maryland County.
The delegation also acknowledged Liberia’s Ambassador to Japan, Edward Wade Appleton, for his role in the negotiations that contributed to securing the grant assistance for the project.
Receiving the delegation, Maryland County Superintendent Nathaniel S. Toe Jr. welcomed the initiative and expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting the project and other interventions aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the county.
Superintendent Toe also commended the Ministry of Health and the Government of Liberia for their continued support to Maryland County, noting the importance of investments that address the healthcare needs of residents.
The proposed Infectious Disease Clinic is expected to serve as an important addition to the J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital and contribute to broader national efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and expand access to specialized medical services.
The project is also expected to benefit communities beyond Maryland County by strengthening the southeastern region’s capacity to respond to infectious disease threats.
With the proposed US$1.5 million investment, health authorities anticipate that the facility will provide additional capacity for infectious disease management and support ongoing efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in southeastern Liberia.
